Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

When Queen Midnight came into my life she was just
Midnight, a fuzzy little black thing from the animal
shelter. Drew and I brought her home and loved her,
and she quickly took over. At some point we learned
that she was a queen and we'd best shape up.

She wasn't very old when she let me know that a
single home wasn't enough for her: she wanted the
world. I didn't know how I could give her the world,
but I could introduce her to the world of the
internet.

In a few months she was running a gigantic home for
cats on the internet (named CLAW), and complaining that it was too much for one set of paws. We brought Plato in from the barn and put her to work too.

Things went well until the kitties started getting
older. Older kitties sometimes get sick, and QM was
no exception. She developed chronic kidney failure.
The vet said that she was feeling no pain, but I knew
that she didn't feel well. I forced her to cut back on
her work. She bit me, but went along so that she
could nap more.

Soon she was doing nothing but eating and sleeping, so I gently closed out her activities. When she found out, she bit me again, and Fur and Fang was the result. By this time, Plato had gone to the Rainbow Bridge, and cheerful Sunny was trying to fill her pawprints.

After only a year, Queen Midnight followed Plato to
the Rainbow Bridge. Sunny was distraught, and left
to live at a sanctuary for cats. I moved out of state,
carrying QM's ashes, and my memories with me.

I was very lucky to have Queen Midnight in my life.
She blessed me with her presence, and her strong
personality. Sometimes she bossed me about with
tooth and fang, but when the day was over she curled
up in my lap and purred.

She was a very special cat, and I miss her a great
deal.
